The Indian Creation Myth In the "Song of Creation" taken from the Rig Veda, the oldest
religious scripture of India, the tale of how the world was created is told. In the beginning of the text it explains that the world started as a complete vacuum. It goes on to explain that there is no concept of life and death yet, nor was there any relative time such as night or day. The only thing that existed in this vast expanse of cosmic water was "The One". Then the One emerges from the dark abyssal mass of water "born of the power of heat" (Rig Veda 12). Then it states that the One had desire that came from with in its own mind. It also says scholars who have searched their souls have realized that what exists is related to what doesn't exist and that they further explored their universe. Next it says that the early powers were a very strong and prolific. The last ten lines of the text go on to question the true order of things. Whether god or the earth came first, did he god create the earth or did he find it, and also who would ever truly know the answers to such questions. Would god even know?
